Night of the Comet (1984)

Plot: Two sisters, high school seniors in the early 1980s, awaken one morning to blood red skies and the realization that the human race has been wiped out. It becomes apparant that anyone who was not surrounded by steel when the Earth recently passed through the tail of Haley’s comet has been reduced to a pile of red ash (the trace elements of human chemical makeup.) They encounter a rebellious Native American man and take over the air waves at a local radio station in an attempt to get help. Unfortunately, they attract the attention of a group of scientists who knew what the effects of the comet would be. They hid underground in a steel laboratory, but idiotically left the vents open. Now, as various survivors of the comet who were only partially surrounded by steel are decaying into flesh-hungry zombies, the scientists are attempting to come up with a vaccine made of the blood of people who were not infected by the comet. Thus the trio must fight their way past not only roving packs of the cannibalistic dead, but also outsmart a pack of scientists desperate not to become that way themselves.

Laptop one year warrantie difficulty repairing?
I bought a laptop from Comet last February, it came with a one year warrantie. It then developed a fault around three months after purchase.. the screen had ‘popped’ out in the top right corner and therefore nothing could be seen on the screen. This damage was not caused by myself or any others it occurred over night without any reason to. However when I took the laptop back to Comet to be repaired or replaced for FREE.. they refused. They suggested I claim on my house insurance?? due to the fact the screen apparently isn’t part of a standard warrantie. My Dad has just tried to take it back again.. but they are still refusing. I was just wondering what the law is on laptop warranties and is the screen really not covered? This wasn’t made clear at purchase and the supposed one year warrantie runs out soon!
The manufacturer is Sony, and it says guarantee not warranty .. Is there a difference?
Warranty coverage is very specific, in that it covers manufacturing defects. So, you have to prove that the issue with your screen is indeed a defect, and that it was not caused by damage or abuse.
In general, screens are not covered by the warranty, because 98% of all problems with screens are user related… in that the laptop is closed with a pen on the keys, or it is dropped, or too much weight is put on the lid of the laptop.
Now, you should be aware that your one year warranty is not with the retail store Comet. It is with the manufacturer of your laptop (which you did not say). So, what you should be doing is contacting the manufacturer (go to their website) and sending your laptop back to the factory for repair. THEY will be able to tell if the laptop was damaged by abuse, or if it was a defect. The retail store Comet doesn’t care. The warranty with them expired two months before the fault. You only have 30 days for an exchange from a retail point of purchase.
So, contact the laptop manufacturer, and arrange for a warranty repair.

Hi,
Review your warranty contract, most of the time they either state their warranty policy on the back in small small letters or its given to you seperately. They are obliged to give you their warranty policy, however it is your responsibility to read it.
Weird though that the screen is not included in the warranty, its normally only the case (the plastic cover) which is not included. If you can not find anything about this in their policy, you’ve got a chance:) If you do find it, there’s nothing you can do about it.

You need to read the fine print on the warranty papers. If it says it covers the whole laptop, then you need to show them that it is covered on the warranty itself. Also, you should bring the receipt to show them you bought it less then a year ago.
Also you might want to mention that, if they don’t fix the laptop even when the warranty covers it, you will be filing a complaint, and that you will seriously consider buying from them again.
One more thing you should check on the warranty is if it’s for the store where you bought it, or the laptop manufacturer. If it’s the manufacturer, you can look up their website, and find the tech support number. Call them, and have them fix the laptop.
