Happy Wright Brothers' Day! Did you know what happened on this day in 1903?
This was the windy day at Kitty Hawk in 1903 when the Wright Brothers flew the first successful powered airplane. We now know it was uncontrollable directionally, and wildly unstable in pitch, but they managed to keep it aloft for almost one full minute on one of their flights.
Why don’t we have holidays to celebrate famous inventors? We only celebrate political leaders and wars, but not the things that actually made our lives better.
I agree.

When you say, "made our lives better," I take it you haven’t been on a commercial flight lately.

an invention that was great at first, til the Govt and Congress had them built exclusively to serve their needs…at the taxpayers expense. The Wright Brothers are probably lamenting the idea in their graves.

I agree that we should celebrate innovations that helped change the world such as this one.
Of course, it is worth noting that the flight left late, didn’t arrive when scheduled, and Orville’s luggage was lost.

Two guys with brains, determination and a dream.
If you take the time to research them, you will quickly discover how fantastic their accomplishments were. What we take for granted in aviation design today, was totally unknown back then. They started from zero in an area that the vast majority of the world thought to be impossible. There were no book on aerodynamics or airfoils so they wrote their own. They built airfoils, wind tunnels and models to test what they thought would work. People think there were two Wright Fliers: A glider and a powered model. In fact, they built many models. Each one more complex and more successful than the previous.
Our country does not give them anywhere near the recognition they deserve.
