Renting a car in Puerto Rico?
I will be going to Puerto Rico in a little over a week and am trying to decide about a car rental. Not whether or not to do it because we will be renting a car (we have hotels in a few different places), but about what options to get with the rental. I currently have three reservations. One is for Thrifty, one is Budget, one is Enterprise. I am trying to decide which to cancel and what insurance/options I need. My insurance- I have full coverage- covers me in Puerto Rico. My husband’s insurance company- though he also has full coverage- does not cover Puerto Rico. He will be doing most of the driving (because of what I have read about the driving there I am afraid to drive there, esp. in San Juan).

So…
THRIFTY
Rental is at airport and we would have it from when we land until we leave. Total Base Rate for a compact car is $136.45 (5 days @ $27.29/day with Unlimited Miles)…this does not include their extra options of the Loss Damage Waiver ($15/day), Personal Protection Plan ($6/day), Supplemental Liability Ins ($8/day). I believe they also charge extra for additional drivers even if the additional driver is a spouse.
Thrifty requires the purchase of Loss Damage Waiver if you don’t show proof that your insurance will cover a rental car in PR. From their website: LDW is Optional If customer is paying with a credit card that extends coverage options to PUERTO RICO or renter presents verification of personal insurance coverages at rental counter. Personal insurance must be accompanied by a letter stating that the customers insurance policy will cover the rental car in Puerto Rico. I have this rental set up as picking up the morning after we arrive because it would be $300 for the same rental period as the others but by picking it up the next morning instead, the rental is only $97 for an intermediate class car. Spouse is free. Their only add on option is the LDW for $20/day.

I think enterprise is the best option but my husband doesn’t want to deal with going back to the airport to get the car/cabs/etc.

My real question- is the LDW really worth the cost? Considering the driving style there? And if you have rented a car at SJU, what was a good company to go through? I have read about thrifty being out of cars despite reservations, etc..

Yesterday I was at my friend’s house and we were showering after using the community center pool. My friend was using her own bathroom and I was using the one down the hall. She had said there were towels in the bathroom closet, but of course after I finish showering there aren’t any. Am I reading too much into this?
My neighbour and I are quite close. He is married with two children and according to him ,,happily” but everytime I go over to his house (it doesn’t matter what time), his wife and his kids are never there. NEVER! Does this seem suspicious to you? When I say I go over, I’m talking like every other day and even when it’s night or if I stay a long time they are never there or never come home. He claims they’re all working but this just seems like a convenient excuse. No matter what time I go day or night, they are never there. I mean all of them! The last time I saw his wife was four years ago! I haven’t seen his children since the day they moved in five years ago.
Everytime I ask him where they all are, he is always replies ,,in work”. When I say ,again?” or try and get more information out of him he just changes the subject.

Does this seem odd to you? Am I reading too much into this?

Its definitely odd. Maybe they hide when they see you coming or run out of the back door.
Do you see their stuff lying around as if they are living there? Like coats or lots of dirty dishes? Does the bathroom give you clues? Im intrigued now. Why not invite him and his wife over for a meal and see what happens. If he says she cant make it because of work, offer to reschedule.
If they really dont live there and hes pretending that they are, there is definitely some kind of problem. Maybe the whole family left him and hes in denial, or is trying to cover something up.

It’s what they do. Nothing is wrong with them exactly, they just have some issues they need to sort out.
If you don’t like people hating on the president, you should try leading by example and being fair in your assessment of him.

If you’ve got beef you should write it out to him. Try asking yourself whats bothering Obama haters. I recommend doing research and being specific. This will help you in realizing what it really is about him that is bothering you, and hopefully allow him to change it. Maybe in the course of gaining and sorting knowledge you will find that your concern is superficial, or that its not him that you are frustrated with but instead the entire political system.

Reguardless of your age or political ideology you have a point of view and a voice. No one can deny that.

What is the greatest western of all time?
Of course the answer is "The good, the bad, and the ugly." But after that, I recently saw "Big Country" with Gregory Peck and Charleton Heston. Great movie. Dramatic, funny, well acted, family safe for viewing.

Unforgiven is great too.
Almost forgot, Big Country was a great role for Carrol Baker. I think she out-acted Jean Simmons as the female lead. Also it was a great role for Burl Ives. Gregory Peck was Gregory Peck, so I can’t say much there. Charleton Heston was really good too in this film.
Of course! How could I forget Shane? Althoug I saw it recently on TV for the first time since I was 6 (it was my favorite movie then) and I found myself switching channels and wishing I could fast forward it on a few parts. The Big Country held my attention and entertained me more consistently than Shane, and the shoot-out scenes were a bit more realistic. But thumbs up for Shane, definitely one of the greatest I’ll give you that.

Oddly, the first film that came to mind for me is this:
The Magnificent Seven

What an amazing cast was assembled for this simple yet powerful story! This is one version of a foreign film that cannot be attacked as less than the original: "Seven Samurai". I can’t be alone in finding this a worthy "remake". The music is immediately identifiable and has been borrowed many times. Eli Wallach is a remarkable villain, thankfully given free rein to fashion his character. Can YOU name all seven?

By the way, I was trained in the ways of film buffdom by my father, who loved many genres, especially Westerns and science fiction. I’ve watched a vast array of Westerns during the past 50+ decades and have many favorites:
